Samsung Electronics And MERA: Joint Test At Rinotel
April 15, 2003
Samsung Electronics and MERA have completed a joint test of the integrated solution staged and run in the RINOTEL network (ZAO RINOTELECOM, former RGC). The tested solution is designed for creation of card-based IP telephony platforms and is built around VoIP gateways from Samsung Electronics, MERA Calling Card Platform (MCCP) and transit softswitch (MVTS) from MERA.
Samsung Electronics furnished SMG-3200/400 VoIP gateways for comprehensive multimode bench and line tests that have been performed in the live VoIP net RINOTEL. The test program envisaged long-distance calls in Russia and CIS states with use of terminal equipment by various vendors, user authorization by MCCP, and interoperation with diversified billing systems and partner nets.
The test proved interoperability of the Samsung-MERA solution with the equipment of business partners including that supplied by CISCO and VocalTec. The test has also demonstrated full compatibility of the proposed solution with the iBtc billing system, operated by RINOTELECOM. The integrated solution permits creation of easily scalable centralized and decentralized IP telephony centers.
The Marketing and Sales Director of Samsung Electronics in Moscow Sergei Zinenko commented on the results of the test: "Thanks to our collaboration with MERA and ZAO RINOTELECOM we have acquired some additional business applications for our produce. Our immediate plans are coordination of the software licensing, dealer training, support and service issues."
According to Oleg Leonov, General Director of RINOTELECOM: "...this solution may have a special appeal for our regional partners, since it allows rapid enhancement of the network with minimum seed money. It gives a provider a capability to offer a wide range of prepaid-card services, deploy LD call centers and corporate VoIP solutions, where MCCP operates as the subscriber authorization server."
"The Samsung-MERA package (MCCP and MVTS) provides a complete solution for an IPT center that ensures traffic symmetry, and dynamic routing for all customers. It makes a reliable and cost-effective platform for service rendering and an efficient means of interoperation with co-providers and co-carriers, opening new promising horizons of further business growth," says Anatoly Korsakov, Commercial Director of MERA.
The VoIP gateway SMG-3200 is a 19" 1U device, affording from 8 to 32 VoIP (H.323) ports and coming with a diversity of POTS line interfaces: E1/PRI, E1/R2MFC, E1 DTMF, FXO/FXS, E&M.
SMG-3200 is easy to setup and configure, and supports Web and SNMP control.

The commercial release of MCCP for 16 and 30 simultaneous connections is planned for June 15, 2003.
MVTS is an operator-class softswitch designed for management of IP-telephony nets. The main job of MVTS is VoIP flows switching and canalization, enhanced by translation service for the nets with different signaling. MVTS permits connection of both individual VoIP gateways and complete nets with the numbering plans of their own. The solution features a transit traffic accounting capability.
