MERA's SIP-HIT to Hit the Market: Right Time, Right Place

Toronto, ON, Canada — October 10, 2003 — MERA Systems, Inc., a key provider of carrier-class VoIP solutions, announced the SIP-HIT, MERA's SIP-H.323 Interprotocol Translator, to be released at the end of October. The SIP-HIT is a signaling and media interworking module of the MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch (MVTS), designed to bridge otherwise incompatible networks and integrate multi-vendor equipment.

This module will enable our session controller, currently deployed by over 100 H.323-based service providers, to become a hit in the SIP space, too."
The SIP-HIT delivers the following functionality:
- two-way H.323/SIP translation to bridge SIP and H.323 networks and equipment
- SIP stateful proxy to ensure interworking of totally incompatible implementations
- Codec conversion for fault-free circulation of media flows (the supported codecs are G.729, G.729A, G.723.1, G711A-Law, G.711mU-Law)
- NAT traversal
- T.38 fax pass-through to enable fax exchange through the translator
The SIP-HIT module provides integration of the H.323 and SIP implementations and significantly expands the range of equipment supported by the MVTS, to include SIP and H.323 gatekeepers, gateways, IP- and softphones (gatekeepers and gateways: Cisco Quintum, VocalTec, Samsung; IP- and softphones: MS NetMeeting, MS Dialer, SmilePhone, SJ Labs SJphone, X-Lite softphone, SIPPS softphone and many others).
