Leading SBC and Billing Vendors Deliver Complete VoIP Solutions to Telcos

Toronto, ON, Canada — Sofia, Bulgaria — February 8, 2005 — MERA Systems, Inc., a forefront supplier of session controllers, and EyeBill, an established vendor of VoIP billing solutions, today announced that Dubai-based NTC has deployed MERA's MVTS Session Controller and EyeBill's Billing Platform for delivery of VoIP services in Middle East and Asia. This joint customer win is in line with EyeBill and MERA's strategic partnership aimed to deliver complete VoIP business solutions to VoIP carriers and service providers.

The Business Challenge

NTC is an Asian telecom service provider that delivers call shop, calling cards, IP PBX and other VoIP-based services through a multi-layer network of resellers and sub-resellers across the region. The telco needed a flexible and complete solution that would enable delivery of all business critical applications (such as voice calling, complex billing of users in real time, calling card generation and the like) on a wholesale partitioned basis, and allow its dozens of partners to operate and manage their accounts independently.

"We have evaluated a number of other products and selected EyeBill and MERA because they form a complete solution that fits our business model in the best way," comments Mohamed Hassan, General Manager for NTC. "We were looking for a complex network management solution that would enable us to collect VoIP calls from a multitude of resellers and provide accurate billing information for each of the accounts. On the part of the session controller, our critical requirement was the ability to perform intelligent call routing and easily scale as we gain more partners. What's more, we are very pleased with the technical support provided by both MERA and EyeBill. After the on-site training we received from the vendors, our engineers can easily operate the system. If any questions arise, we can always count on both vendor's round the clock customer support service. This is particularly important when one is exploring a new business model like we do."

How it works

The major business of the NTC is the call shop chain (equipped with EyeBill call shop software and hardware) along with calling cards and corporate accounts. The direct offering of those services to the end-customers and sales activity will be run entirely by the company's network of resellers, while NTC itself will carry out centralized management of the reseller businesses by issuing special sales credit account to each reseller and monitoring their sales and marketing performance. MERA's MVTS Session Controller operates as the 'main brain' of NTC's VoIP network. It collects traffic from all call shops, calling card accounts and corporate/residential customers, and performs intelligent routing of calls. It also interacts with EyeBill's billing system in real time via RADIUS protocol, thereby enabling NTC to monitor the multiple reseller accounts on a partitioned basis, run real-time reports and implement a diversity of billing schemes, both post- and pre-paid, and support the marketing activities of its resellers.

"In this dynamic VoIP market telcos like NTC are seeking fast deployment of very complex telecom solutions," comments Gueorgui Metchkarov, Product Manager at EyeBill. "There are a lot of factors that must be considered, so a one-stop-shop solution that we provide together with MERA eliminates interoperability risks and minimizes the presales evaluation, negotiation and deployment time. What's more, MERA is one of the very few session control solutions that support RADIUS for authentication, accounting and routing purposes, and enable carriers and service providers get the most out of their network facilities."

"The bundled Session Controller/Billing solution allows NTC to boost the development of IP communications in Asia and Middle East," says Konstantin Nikashov, CEO at MERA Systems. "Using the partitioning technology enabled by the billing system, NTC helps many companies to quickly start up a VoIP business with no capital investment. In a nutshell, this business model is a very efficient way for market penetration and will enable NTC to provide low-cost yet reliable telephony services to the growing Asian market."
