MERA Systems' New Softswitch to Support Voice Peering Fabric's ENUM Registry Lookup

Next Generation of MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch With Built-in Support to Stealth's Voice Peering Fabric ENUM to Enable End-to-End IP Calls
New York, NY (July 3, 2006) - VOICE PEERING FORUM - MERA Systems, a forefront supplier of VoIP softswitches and session controllers, joined efforts with Stealth Communications' Voice Peering Fabric to deliver an effective routing solution with integrated ENUM lookup capabilities.
Voice Peering Fabric (VPF) functions as an exchange or meet-point and is designed as a private voice Internet, allowing its members to establish peer-to-peer connections and exchange VoIP traffic and telephony related services in a secure, quality-of-service environment. VPF ENUM Registry will make it possible for participating carriers to route VoIP calls end-to-end through IP networks, thus avoiding PSTN charges.
Located in 9 U.S. cities and London, the Voice Peering Fabric has become the preferred peering platform and marketplace for Service Providers, Enterprises, and Government Agencies. In 2005, traffic on the VPF reached over 18 billion minutes and is expected to exceed 80 billion minutes in 2006.
MERA Systems' next generation MVTS II (MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch II) will support extremely sophisticated routing capabilities, including various options for a carrier to send requests to ENUM registries, analyze the responses and use information received to take optimal routing decisions for each particular call.
"With its advanced traffic handling capabilities and support of ENUM, MVTS II is designed to turn the network into a highly sensitive profit-generating instrument," comments Konstantin Nikashov, CEO of MERA Systems. "I would like to thank Stealth Communications and the VPF for sharing valuable ideas with us and for providing the test medium to prove full compatibility of MVTS II with VPF services and to ensure that MERA will create a highly effective ENUM lookup tool."
"We are pleased to welcome MERA Systems and its customers to the VPF Community," said Shrihari Pandit, President & CEO of Stealth Communications. "With MERA's built-in support for VPF's ENUM registry lookups, MERA customers can now enjoy the savings and operational efficiencies that voice peering brings."
On top of ENUM lookups, the key technology benefits of the new MVTS II softswitch include native support of SIP, H.323 and their variants, elaborate call routing mechanisms, advanced transcoding capabilities; softswitch partitioning, mobile number portability, and sophisticated operation analysis and reporting tools. The new MVTS II has a fully distributed modular architecture, and can scale up to 50,000 concurrent calls.
The strongest advantage of MVTS II is its state-of-the-art routing tools, which enable the choice of the most 'appealing' routes - based on cost, quality, information from ENUM registries, Inter/Intrastate routing options, route capacity, gateway and route load, and many other parameters. Utilizing these flexible routing schemes, carriers can offer services based on SLAs (service level agreements) and optimize peering with their partners. Another important option of the softswitch is automated profitability control - the system calculates the profitability of each path and can block routes generating zero or low profit. This handy feature is particularly important for carriers that deal with lots of different partners, as it safeguards the carriers against 'cherry picking' and mistakes.
MERA Systems and Stealth Communications believe that the future of VoIP telephony is in close integration of VoIP carriers, including peering and exchange of subscriber information through ENUM registries. MERA's MVTS II and Stealth's VPF are making this future closer.
